I consider myself somewhat of a foodie, I rarely eat at chain restaurants. We were visiting Grand Island and looking for somewhere to eat and I came across Tacos Las Palmas. Like anyone on yelp, I read the reviews and looked at the pictures. We decided to try it out and I am so glad we did! It was amazing, fresh and authentic Mexican food. It was not too pricey for what you get and the people were very friendly. The fajitas were great, perfect thickness for the meat, grilled in front of you and not shredded! Definitely try the Horchata for your drink, it's perfect and refreshing! If you're reading this, let me decide for you, go eat at this great place. P.S. They have a food truck in the parking lot that I assume stays open later than the restaurant.

Excellent authentic Mexican food, unlike the usual Americanized version so often served in the Midwest. Very quick service.

I got the cheese enchiladas. I live in Arizona so know good Mexican food and this rocks! Definitely will be returning, if I end up back in the area.. The food is flavorful and the service is nice. Doesn't look very nice from the outside but it's great!

This is the real deal for great authentic Mexican food! The steak tacos and the pastor sopes were fantastic. Thanks to the yelpers for helping us discover this place as we passed though town on a trip to the Sturgis SD. 75th Anniversary. We will return when we are in the area.

Lunch specials are great, awesome prices. If i was a local this would be a weekly stop. I had steak and a chicken chicken taco. We split a chicken quesadilla. This was a lot of food, really really good food. We were in and out fast. Friendly staff.

A great find on Yelp. Loved the food: huge portions. Little or no atmosphere, a lot of people take food to go, but enjoyed sitting there and eating. Very nice people. We even bought dessert out of the back of someone's truck in the parking lot. That was even more unbelievably good. Great place.

Stopped here on a road trip through Nebraska for dinner. We got a wet burrito, some tacos, a sope, and a big horchata to eat in the park across the street - absolutely delicious!

The food was five-star flavor. Ordered the wet chicken burrito. It was spicy, but not too..... With a hint of lime and cilantro, covered with green sauce. $10.00

Passing through Grand Island and tried this place based on the great yelp ratings. I was not disappointed. Had one each of the asada, pastor, and chorizo tacos--yum! Each one was super tasty with fresh ingredients. Loved the soft double corn tortillas and toppings of onion, cilantro, and salsa, plus the essential lime wedges for squeezing. Since we were getting it to go we walked up to the truck parked outside the restaurant. Great for quick pickup. These tacos totally hit the spot after a long day of road tripping. Lucky Grand Islanders get to enjoy this good grub all the time.

Very good, fresh, made to order, quick, good salsa. Worth the detour from 80!! Vegetarian for me (see tips) and husband liked the chorizo enchiladas. Coming back soon when in the area.

Had pork taco & barbacoa taco. Was very good & quick. Salsa is pretty good. Tastes very authentic. Would come back again.

With something as simple as a taco, you can get taste and quality that is all over the place. This place was amazing. I found it here on Yelp and we tried it. We moved to Nebraska from Tennessee so are still out exploring for great places to eat. We live about 90 miles from Grand Island so we pick a place to eat when we come into town. I had two chorizo and two carne asada tacos and loved them. There were a lot of Hispanics in there eating (which is a good sign that it is authentic). I'll definitely be back until I've tried everything (except the things like tripe and cheek tacos).

  • Matt M.

These are not just the best tacos in town--they're some of the best tacos I've ever had. There are a lot of competitors in town, and I haven't tried them all, but the ones I've tried don't even compare.

  • Dave K.

Skip the big brands for this! Had the chicken burrito and it was very authentic. Salsa very much made the trip worth it!

If you want great Mexican then this is your place to go! During the week they have great specials and you get a lot of food for your money. Their homemade chips and salsa are the best in town.

Tuesday special green chili burritos al pastor. Excellente! The town itself is a very pleasant surprise!

This is THE best Mexican food you will find in Grand Island. No where else will you find the sizzling and tasty flavors of Michoacan Mexico, and friendly service, than here at Tacos Las Palmas. Their tacos, carnitas (on the weekends), adobada, chorizo, menudo, sopes, tortas, enchiladas... you won't find a better flavor anywhere in Grand Island. My favorites are the adobada tacos and carnitas.

  • Length P.

I ate here based on it's yelp review when I was travelling through Grand Island and I wasn't disappointed. Really great mexican food in an otherwise fairly baron looking town. I had a wet burrito. It was delicious. And huge. The barbacoa is succulent and the orchata's are good too. Can't imagine you'd find better mexican in Grand Island.

  • Shashank S.

Great Tortas and Burritos. Fresh ingredients. What a pleasant surprise to see this in Grand Island, NE. Best tortas since I left California 10 years ago. Friendly owner and staff. Very authentic Mexican food.

  • Marc F.

Maybe the best Mexican food in Grand Island and possibly my favorite taco joint in the state. The food is simple, but full of flavor. I love their al pastor tacos, green chili burritos, fajitas, and alambres. The only thing not amazing is the salsa that comes with complimentary chips. But hey, they're free and still pretty damn good.

We were on a cross country trip coming back to So Cal from the east coast and we were missing genuine Mexican food. We saw Tacos Las Palmas on Yelp and headed their way. My wife ordered a Carnitas burrito. It was huge and tasted perfect. The meat was tender and tasty with no sogginess to it. The chips and salsa were excellent. the chips were homemade and the salsa has just a little heat and a great depth of flavors. I had the chili verde. It was some of the best i have ever eaten. there were no chunks of fat in it yet the meat was tender with good texture. Even the beans had a good texture and flavor. Geraldo, the owner came over to our table and visited with us. We found that he was originally from Mexico, then So Cal and then Nebraska. He is very interesting to talk to and brings his family recipes to the mid-west. A treasure of a find. Highly recommend.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque.
